Chain Transfer

A method of transferring sheets from one printing unit to another on a sheetfed press (especially that used in offset lithography) in which sets of gripper"]s mounted on moving chains or belts carry the printed sheet from one impression cylinder to the next. Because chain systems allow the sheet to contact fewer surfaces, there is less opportunity for ink marking or smudging. (See also Single-Drum Transfer, Three-Drum Transfer, and Transfer Cylinder.)
