Gum Tragacanth

A gummy, water-soluble substance exuded by several species of Asian shrub of the genus Astragalus (in particular A. gummifer') used as a stiffening agent in pills, throat lozenges, and other such applications. It is also used as a binder in water-vehicle solutions, such as those used to make screen printing stencil emulsions.
