Off-Line Editing

In video editing, a kind of "pre-editing" during which videotape is reviewed on a conventional VCR or other inexpensive system (i.e., not an editing system) and an edit decision list is compiled, along with a list of edit in/out points, as well as desired effects. It is on this initial off-line editing session that an on-line editing session is based.
