Positive

Any image, especially a photographic film or paper print, that possesses the same tonal orientation as the original—i.e., black text on a white background—as opposed to a negative, which is tonally reversed. Although negatives are used most often for platemaking, positives may also be used, depending upon the photosensitive plate material. (See Positive-Working Plate and Negative-Working Plate.)
