Shower-Door Effect

A defect of video that has been compressed with a lossy compression algorithm, characterized by portions of the image that are in motion and portions that are not. In essence, the picture looks as if it were being viewed through multi-faceted glass, such as one finds on shower doors. The effect tends to worsen as the compression ratio increases.
