Stopping Out

In prepress, an alternate term for the application of opaque to a negative during stripping. See Opaque (second definition).

Stopping out is also used to refer to the application of a lacquer during the process of dot etching. See Dot Etching.

Stopping out also refers to a chemical protection of certain areas of halftone plates which have been deep-etched, as a means of preventing ink from collecting on the protected areas.
