In desktop publishing and page layout, a box or frame in which text is entered and formatted. The size and position of the text box can be varied, and multiple text boxes can be linked together, allowing text to flow from one place to another.
In general computing, a text box is also any space within a dialog box in which user-defined data or parameters are entered.
