Tone Reproduction

The degree to which all the tonal elements of a reproduced image—such as the final print and the intermediate films—approximate those on the original image. Tone reproduction can be expressed graphically, using a four-quadrant Jones Diagram. Tone reproduction is often used interchangeably with contrast, gamma, and gradation.
