Addition Agent

A substance—commonly an organic compound—added to an electroplating solution to alter the characteristics of the layer of deposited metal. They are commonly used in the electrolytic baths for gravure cylinder copperplating to inhibit the growth of copper crystals, which contribute to undesirable degrees of surface roughness.
