Asynchronous

Descriptive of two or more events which occur independently of each other in time, usually used to refer to asynchronous transmission in data communications, in which the timing of a transmission does not need to be precisely coordinated by both the sender and the receiver. See Aynchronous Transmission. See also Sychronous.
