Bid

In printing, a quote for a print job submitted by a printer to a client. The client typically solicits bids from several printers and chooses from among the lowest. However, there are usua;lly other criteria involved in accepting a printer's bid, and selecting the cheapest may not always be the best idea. Other factors involved include the turnaround time, as well as the quality of the printing.

In networking, the term bid refers to the means by which terminals gain access to and messages get transmitted across a contention network.
