Calender

A series of highly-polished steel rollers at the end of a papermaking machine used to produce a desired finish on paper. See Calendering. Further calendering is performed on a separate machine called a supercalender. The word "calender" itself is a derivation of the word cylindrus, the Latin word for "cylinder."

'Calender is also used to describe a similar configuration of heated rollers used to compress screen fabrics utilized in screen printing.
