Cathode

A source of negatively-charged ions, used in the electroplating of cylinders used in gravure printing, as opposed to an anode. See Electroplating. Cathodes are also used in photomultiplier tubes and many other electric and electronic devices, such as cathode-ray tubes used in computer monitors. See Cathode Ray and Cathode-Ray Tube.
