Checking

A pattern of short, shallow cracks that form on a rubber or synthetic rubber surface (such as an offset press blanket, ink, dampening or impression rollers, or a flexographic plate) due to damage from temperature, exposure to ultraviolet light, or other environmental conditions.

'Checking also describes a defect of a printed ink film also known as crazing. See Crazing.
