Coder/Decoder

In digital video production, a hardware or software application or algorithm used to code or compress and decode or decompress digital video signals. One example is a microprocessor on a digitizing board which converts analog audio or video to digital form, and back again for playback. A software example is an algorithm such as ["Cinepak or Indeo which are used to compress video files. Abbreviated Codec.
