Color Compression

The reduction of the color gamut of an original image so as to enable it to be reproduced using the ink, paper, and printing equipment on hand.

In digital imaging, color compression refers to the reducing of the amount of data comprising an image by removing data that is redundant or extraneous, as a means of speeding up the processing of the image or the amount of disk space occupied by the file. (See Data Compression.)
