Color Subsampling

A means of reducing the bandwidth of a color video image by reducing the color resolution of the chrominance of the image to a value lower than that of the luminance prior to transmission. The original color resolution is restored upon reception and display of the image. An undesired consequence of color subsampling is color noise.
