A vertical area of running text on a page. In page layout software, text that spans the entire width of a page is considered as a column, although a column is conventionally thought of as some fractional division of a page. The width of a column should be based on type size and legibility and is a function of line length. See Line Length.
'Column is also used to describe any vertical row of data.
