Cut

In printing ink, to dilute or thin an ink, varnish, or lacquer with a solvent as a means of reducing its viscosity and altering its flow characteristics.

In film and video production, an abrupt transition from one scene to another lacking any transition effect, such as a dissolve or a wipe.
