In photography, a gelatin-based filter used to diffuse the light striking a light-sensitive emulsion, so as to "soften" the exposed image. In computer image manipulation, a diffuser is a software feature that reduces the contrast of pixels that is used for the same purpose. Also known as a diffusion filter.
