False Negative

The retrieval system's failure to find a Hit where the user would consider the section to be relevant to the search. False negatives occur when terms in the text do not match the search terms. For example, they may be synonyms that are unknown to the computer. When false negatives result from different forms of the same term, Wildcard searching will help.
