Half-Scale Black

A black printer—or keycolor separation which contains only a partial range of tonal gradations, in particular those in the darkest regions of the print—the quartertones and the shadows. Consequently, dots are only printed in the dark portions of the image, as opposed to the full-scale black. See Full-Scale Black. Half-scale black is also known as skeleton black.
