National Television Standards Committee

The American committee that establishes standards for color television broadcasting and video recording. The NTSC standard for television—used in North America and Japan—specifies 29.97 frames per second, a screen frequency of 59.94 Hertz, and a screen consisting of 525 video lines. In Europe, two other standards—Phase Alternating Line and Séquentiel Couleur à Mémoire are used.
