Plate Blinding

A press and printing problem of offset lithography characterized by a printing plate's loss of ink receptivity, commonly caused by an excessively acidic fountain solution eating away at the image areas of the plate. A solution is to raise the pH (i.e., make it less acidic) of the fountain solution. (See Fountain Solution: pH.)
