Red Patch

In traditional prepress, a square, rectangle or other shape o rubylith, amberlith, etc., pasted to a mechanical in the exact position of a desired halftone or other illustration. When the mechanical is photographed as a negative prior to stripping, it will appear as a transparent window, into which the halftone negative can be placed. Also called a black patch.
