Shellac

A type of resin or varnish produced by dissolving lac in an alcohol or other solvent. Lac is a resinous material excreted by the lac insect ('Laccifer lacca', a member of the order Homoptera and related to the aphid) and found encrusting the branches of various southern Asian trees (most commonly Croton laccifera'). Shellac is widely used as a resin in the manufacture of flexographic inks.
