Spine

In book production, the bound edge of a book, where the pages are held together, commonly to the binding. The spine of a book also commonly bears the title and author of the book on the outside edge. Also known as the backbone.

In typography, the main curved stroke of the capital or lowercase letter "S." See Letter Elements.
