Step Tablet

A type of gray scale, particularly one that has been imaged on film (rather than paper) and consists of levels of gray in discrete—not continuous—shades of gray, ranging from white to black. Step tablets are commonly used to monitor the exposure of printing plates. See Gray Scale. Also known as a Step Wedge.
