Tracking

In typography, the adjusting of the letterspacing throughout a piece of typeset copy. See Letterspacing.

In video, the term tracking refers to a faulty playback of a videotape, caused by an incomplete reading of the control track or by a damaged control track. On most VCRs, tracking can be compensated for by adjusting the tape speed (the "tracking" control button).
