In Internet, and World Wide Web terminology, an application program used to explore—or "browse"—Internet resources, specifically Web pages. With a browser, the user can stroll from node to node (or page to page) without much concern for the technical details of such wandering. Some common browsers are Mosaic, Netscape, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer. See World Wide Web. Also referred to as a Web browser.
Before the advent of the Web, the term browser referred simply to a small utility program used to scan a database or a list of files.
