Cadmium-Mercury Red

A type of inorganic color pigment used in printing inks derived from various cadmium compounds, such as cadmium selenide (chemical formula CdSe), as well as mercury. Cadmium-Mercury Red also includes several shades ranging from bright red to deep red. Other cadmium-based pigments include the Cadmium Reds and Cadmium Yellows, as well as Cadmium Oranges. The cadmium pigments are rarely used any longer, having been replaced by less potentially toxic organic pigments, except in cases where extreme chemical resistance is necessary. (See Inorganic Color Pigments.)
