Cellular

A technology used for mobile telephony (i.e., the increasingly ubiquitous cellular phones). Essentially, a geograpohic area is divided into a series of hexagonal zones (called "cells") which fit together to form a kind of honeyco,mb pattern. Each of these cells contains a radio transceiver and a controller. A central switch transfers calls from one cell to another, the calls originating and/or ending at a cellular phone.
