Coherence

In optics, the principle by which light waves remain in a fixed and predictable relationship to each other over time and/or distance. For example, a laser comprises light waves that possess coherence.

In a raster display, coherence refers to assigning a value to a pixel that is the same as that of an adjacent pixel.
