A new television broadcasting system perhaps destined to replace current NTSC, PAL, and SECAM standards which boasts higher-quality video and CD-quality sound, as well as the ability to simultaneously broadcast speech in several languages. The picture size conforms to the current 4:3 proportion, as well as the wide-screen-TV 16:9 proportion. Currently in use in several European countries, it is considered to be the precursor to high definition television.
