Dancer Roller

A type of roller, also known as a floating roller, used in the infeed section of a web press to regulate the speed at which the web of substrate unwinds into the press and to maintain web tension. The dancer roller is free to move up or down, forward or backward, as the press runs. The movement of the dancer, in combination with an attached brake on the roll stabd, acts to keep the web unwinding at a constant speed. Additional dancer rollers may be added for additional web control. (See also Web Offset Lithography: Infeed and Web Control.)
