Disk Crash

Any failure of a computer's disk drive to fail to read or write data properly, due to any of a variety of causes, such as a software problem, a computer virus, a power outage or surge, excessive heat, or foreign-substance contamination. A specific type of disk crash—a head crash—involves a collision between the read/write head and the surface of the disk.
