Distributed Database

A database whose constituent records are physically stored in more than one geographic location, but which are managed as a single, large database. Often redundant data is stored in more than one location as a means of preventing irretrievable data loss if something happens to one location. Such systems usually have means of facilitating the update of all redundant information.
