Edge Staining

In binding and finishing, a type of edge treatment involving application of a dye or other colorant to the trimmed edges of a book. Edge staining may be performed on all three unbound edges, only on the side edge, or only on the top edge. In the latter case, the process is known as top staining. Edge stains added in an irregular or spatter pattern are known as sprinkled edges.
