Any pictorial representation of an object, be it a type character, a photograph, a drawing, etc., that exists either in printed form, on a glass disc (as a font image used in phototypesetting), or digital form. The generation and/or reproduction of images is known as imaging.
In data processing, an image is any array of data that has been copied from one storage location to another. For example, a disc image is a copy of the bit pattern of a CD-ROM.
