System where each element of the picture is analyzed in relation to adjacent horizontal and vertical elements. When differences are detected a detail signal is generated and added to the luminance signal to enhance it.
Some scanners have adjustment controls so the user can add or subtract primary colors, mphasize light or dark areas and sharpen or soften an image before scanning. Software can be used to enhance the image after scanning. Also known as color enhancement.
