JPEG++

A propriertary extension to the JPEG data compression algoirithm, developed by Storm Technology. With JPEG++, a portion of an image can be designated as either foreground or background, and the compression level of each designation can be set separately. For example, when compressing an image file containing a portraitr of a person, for example, the foreground can be compressed only slightly, while the background can be compressed to a much greater extent. As a result, the lossiness of the image is reduced See also JPEG.
