Kilobyte

A common unit of computer storage, comprising 1,024 bytes. Kilo- is the prefix meaning "thousand," so it is common to consider one kilobyte as equal to one thousand bytes, although that isn't entirely accurate. It was once common to find hard disks, magnetic storage media, and RAM capacities measured in terms of kilobytes, but the larger megabyte has now become a more prominent capacity. Fortunately, however, most text files are still measured in only tens or hundreds of kilobytes. Kilobyte is abbreviated KB, or, colloquially, "K." 1,024 kilobytes equals one megabyte.
