A color management system—a set of computer programs or utilities that ensure consistent color throughout the prepress processes by calibrating the color relationships among the scanners, monitors, printers, imagesetters, and other devices in the chain from input to output—developed by Kodak. Of primary advantage with the Kodak Precision CMS is the vast library of device profiles, or files that indicate the color space utilizied by the various devices in the system. Additionally, the Kodak CMS allows users to create new profiles for devices that may not be in the default library. Based on the CIELUV color space, the Kodak CMS uses advanced and proprietary transformation algorithms to accurately match colors from one space to another. It also includes gamut mapping and gamut compression to compensate for the differences in gamut from one device to another. (See ["Color Management System [CMS]"].)
