Lake

An organic pigment used in printing inks produced by combining (either chemically or by other means) a water-soluble dye with a metallic base so as to make the dye insoluble in water. (See Organic Color Pigments.)

The term lake is also used to refer to any depression in the surface of a rubber flexographic plate.
