Nine-Track Tape

A type of half-inch magnetic tape used for the backup of computer information and files, comprising nine parallel tracks, eight of which are used for data, the ninth being used for parity information. Often used on some minicomputer systems, although digital audio tapes tend to be more popular for networks.
