Phosphor

A substance applied to the back of a cathode-ray tbe which, when struck by an electron beam, emits light, a property known as phosphorescence. It is the action of phosphors under the action of a moving electron beam (or, in color monitors, three electron beams) that produce an image on a computer screen or television set.
