A basic unit of measurement in typography. One pica equals 12 points, and 6 picas equal approximately 1 inch (actually, 6 picas equal 0.996 inch). See Point System.
The term pica is also used to refer to a 10-pitch (10 characters per horizontal inch) typewriter font. See also Elite.
