Plugging

A press and printing problem in offset lithography characterized by filled-in halftone shadows and small reverse type, commonly occurring when using a fountain solution comprising an alcohol substitute, caused by incomplete wetting of the plate due to a lack of reduced surface tension of the solution. Adding a wetting agent so as the increase the solution's ability to form a thin, continuous film can help alleviate the problem. (See Fountain Solution.)
