A premature contact between the paper and the offset press blanket, which produces a printing defect known as doubling, a distortion of a printed image in which a faint "pre-impression" of halftone dots is made out of register with the proper dots of the actual printing impression. Prekissing is caused by paper distortions such as wavy edges or by static electricity. (See also Doubling.)
