Red Book

In multimedia, the original set of standards developed by Sony and Philips in 1982 for the compact disc, technically called the compact disc-digital audio. The Red Book standard (so-named because the publication containing the specifications had a red cover) describes the physical structure of the disc and the instructions for creating CDs. See Compact Disc-Digital Audio and Compact Disc.
